You Can Help When the Unexpected Happens

When Taylor* moved to Madison with her then 6-year-old daughter, her goal was simple: build a stable life closer to family. She soon took one step on that path when she accepted a job caring for older adults at Capitol Lakes.
While her work was fulfilling, as a single parent she walked the constant tight rope of trying to balance work, childcare, and the pressure to make ends meet.
Like so many, she made it work until she couldn’t. Unexpected expenses suddenly put her at risk of losing her housing. In a moment, she was forced to wonder how she would keep a roof over her daughter’s head. She struggled as she tried to come up with solutions that could keep her dear girl in the same school, surrounded by friends and familiar routines.
Thanks to you, Taylor’s worries were put to rest when she received help from the Financial Assistance in Times of Hardship (FAITH) program funded by the Capitol Lakes Foundation.
With rent support, she was able to avoid eviction and maintain stability for her daughter. Just as importantly, that assistance allowed her to stretch her paycheck toward other essentials like keeping the lights on and putting enough food on the table to supplement what SNAP benefits could provide.
Unfortunately, Taylor’s story isn’t an anomaly. Even the most well-prepared can face hard circumstances when the unexpected happens.
But you can help.
Two years ago, generous supporters gave over $50,000 to keep FAITH available to those in need. Today, we’ve nearly depleted those resources. Your gift will help us raise an additional $50,000, ensuring that no request is ever denied due to lack of funds.
Thanks to anonymous donors, the first $10,000 in donations received before June 30th will be matched – doubling your impact for Capitol Lakes team members in need.
For Taylor, the support she received from FAITH gave her more than just financial relief. She recently shared that the FAITH program is one of the reasons why she chooses to continue working at Capitol Lakes, despite other available job opportunities. As she says:
“I feel valued here, not just as an employee, but as a person. I’ve never experienced that in a workplace before. I’ve never felt embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help here. That means everything.”
For Taylor, Capitol Lakes has become her second home. She spends more waking hours here than anywhere else, and her daughter understands why. As she put it simply: “Without this job, and without the support I received, we may not have been able to stay in Wisconsin at all.”
Taylor’s story is a reminder that the FAITH fund does more than provide temporary assistance. It preserves stability, protects families, and reinforces a culture where people feel seen, supported, and respected. Thank you for making that kind of security possible.
