Work Your Weights: Staying Strong

Updated: Feb 15, 2021

When the Wellness Center had to close in late 2020 our residents stayed strong in the face of adversity. One of our residents, Joan Burstyn, approached the Foundation with a compelling idea - to provide hand weights to interested residents followed by a friendly competition to motivate everyone to "work their weights" at least three times a week. The Foundation complemented her idea by also offering an exercise DVD.

73 residents expressed interest in some aspect of the program. The Foundation delivered 38 exercise videos, over 225 total pounds of weights, and enrolled over 35 residents in the "Work Your Weights" New Year challenge.

To add a social component, Foundation Director Lenee Kruse held weekly check in meetings where residents reported their progress, shared advice, and socialized. The Challenge culminated in a celebration on Friday, February 12th. All participants received a "healthy" snack from the Foundation and two residents won prizes. The challenge turned out to be a fun way to bring our community together in a separate and safe way.

What residents are saying:

Thank you so much for all you do for us.

Thanks for making this program possible.

You all are offering wonderful things and ideas to keep us going during this difficult time.

Thank you very much. It's a wonderful idea.

Thanks very much for doing this.

Thank you for the book and the weights, all of which should keep me busy.

EXCELLENT PROGRAM
