Investing in People: How Student Loan Repayment Helps Our Team Members Thrive

The Capitol Lakes Foundation's student loan repayment program for team members is more than a benefit. It is an investment in the dedicated professionals who make Capitol Lakes a special place to live and work. Thanks to those who generously support the Capitol Lakes Foundation, team members can receive assistance with their student loans twice each year, helping ease the financial burden of higher education while continuing to build rewarding careers serving older adults.

One team member who has benefited from the program is our Assisted Living Administrator, Delana Chumbler, who recently celebrated five years with Capitol Lakes.

After earning her associate degree from Hawkeye Community College, she continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa, where she received a bachelor's degree in Gerontology: Long-Term Administration with a minor in Family Services. She graduated in 2018 and soon began building a career focused on serving older adults and their families.

Today, she serves as Administrator for Assisted Living and also supports Capitol Lakes Home Care. Her passion for the work is rooted in both the people she serves and the team she works alongside each day. As she says:

"I enjoy working at Capitol Lakes because of the supportive team environment and, most importantly, the residents who we have the privilege of caring for. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is getting to know our residents and their families, building relationships with them, and knowing that the care and support we provide can make a difference in their lives."

She also values the culture of collaboration that defines Capitol Lakes.

"I appreciate the support and teamwork within our area, as well as knowing that others are always willing to step in and help when needed."

Like many professionals, pursuing a college education required taking on student loans. The Foundation's student loan repayment benefit has helped reduce that financial burden while allowing her to focus on her career and professional growth. As Delana explains:

"Student loan repayment means a lot to me as it helps ease the financial responsibility of my education while allowing me to continue building my career. It's nice to know that the education I worked hard for continues to be supported as I grow professionally."

Stories like Delana's demonstrate the lasting impact of donor support. By contributing to programs like student loan repayment, donors help attract and retain talented professionals who are dedicated to providing exceptional care and service to Capitol Lakes residents. The result is a stronger workforce, a stronger community, and continued excellence in the care and support we provide every day.

Thank you to our generous donors for making opportunities like this possible. Your support helps ensure that dedicated team members like Delana can thrive both personally and professionally while continuing to enrich the lives of Capitol Lakes residents.
