Your Gifts at Work: Supporting Grant Mooslin's Future
A workplace can be more than a place to clock in. For Capitol Lakes team member Grant Mooslin, it has become a source of steadiness, flexibility, and support as he works toward a demanding academic goal.
Grant recently received Tuition Assistance from the Capitol Lakes Foundation, helping him continue his graduate studies at UW-Madison while serving residents and guests at Capitol Lakes. His story is a reminder that educational support can make a real difference, especially for team members balancing work, school, family, and future plans.
Grant’s role at Capitol Lakes

Grant is part of the dining team at Capitol Lakes, where he has worked as a server in the Henry St. Cafe and Seasons restaurant for just over a year.
In that role, Grant helps create the daily rhythm of hospitality that makes dining feel welcoming. Servers often become familiar faces, learning preferences, building trust, and helping meals feel less routine and more personal.
For Grant, the job has also offered consistency during a busy season of life. Working while pursuing a graduate degree takes focus, planning, and a workplace that understands that schedules are not always simple.
Studying data science in human behavior
Grant is currently pursuing his master’s degree at UW-Madison, with a focus that connects technology, data, and people.
That field sits at an important intersection. Data science can help researchers and organizations understand patterns in how people think, act, learn, and make decisions. Human behavior brings context to the numbers. Together, they can help shape tools that are not only technically strong, but also thoughtful about how people actually use them.
Grant’s interests reach into one of the biggest questions of the moment: how artificial intelligence should be used, and where its limits belong.
“My goal in the future is to design ways for artificial intelligence to help people and to try to answer the question of where AI belongs and where it doesn’t.”
That is a careful and timely goal. AI is becoming part of many areas of daily life, from education to health care to customer service. But the most useful technology still needs human judgment. Grant’s focus on where AI belongs, and where it does not, shows a desire to build with care rather than simply build because the tools exist.
Balancing work, school, and life
Graduate school brings its own pace. Classes change. Assignments build up. Travel and family plans can make schedules even more complex. Grant named that reality directly.
“Things have been hectic with changing class schedules, and traveling to see family.”
That kind of hectic season can be difficult for anyone. It can be even harder when work schedules are rigid. Grant’s experience has been different.
“Capitol Lakes has been very accommodating for those plans while providing a friendly environment to work in.”
A friendly work environment matters. So does flexibility. When both come together, they can help team members stay grounded while they keep moving toward long-term goals.
For students who work, support is often practical. It may look like understanding a changed class schedule, helping manage availability, or making the workplace feel steady when the rest of life is shifting. Those acts may seem small day to day, but they add up.
Grant described that sense of steadiness plainly:
“Overall this job has provided me stability and consistency at a time where that’s hard to come by.”
What Tuition Assistance means
Tuition Assistance is more than a financial benefit. It sends a message about what an organization values.
For Grant, the support from the Capitol Lakes Foundation means that his education is seen as part of who he is, not something separate from his work.
He said:
“Tuition Assistance also means that Capitol Lakes cares about my education as well and wants to help me beyond the kitchen and dining room.”
That line captures the heart of this recognition. Grant contributes to Capitol Lakes through his work in the Henry St Cafe and the Seasons restaurant. The Tuition Assistance shows support for his growth beyond those spaces, too.
It recognizes a team member with goals, studies, responsibilities, and plans for the future. It also reflects a broader belief that supporting education helps people continue developing their skills and pursuing meaningful work.
For Grant, that future may include designing AI tools that help people. For Capitol Lakes, this moment is a chance to celebrate a team member who brings care to his work today while preparing for what comes next.
A foundation for what comes next
Grant’s story brings together several pieces of a full life: work, education, family, service, and ambition. None of them happen in isolation. Each one affects the others.
That is why support matters.
The Capitol Lakes Foundation’s Tuition Assistance helps Grant continue his studies at UW- Madison while maintaining the stability of his role at Capitol Lakes. It also honors the effort it takes to keep going when schedules change and responsibilities compete for time.
We appreciate all those whose gifts make Tuition Assistance at Capitol Lakes possible to help team members like Grant achieve their future goals, while serving residents today.
